If you have ever searched on the internet about the main difference between these three options then it’s most likely that the answer was something along the lines of Perfumes being highly concentrated in aromatic oils and having less alcohol and water; whereas Body sprays and Body Mists have higher Alcohol and Water with less concentrated oils. Right?

But how will these technical words convey a clear answer regarding your confusion? The answer is; it won’t because not everyone is aware of how lower or higher concentrations of aromatic oils affect the fragrance it produces and what results it might have on their skin.

Simply speaking, Perfumes are the most ancient form of fragrance with more concentrated oils which means it will have a more potent aroma and will definitely be more long-lasting than any other option. They are layered with three layers of Notes: Top, Middle, and Base. Top notes are the ones that you smell immediately after applying and they evaporate quickly, Middle notes appear before the complete evaporation of the top notes and Base notes bring depth to the fragrance and you will be able to smell base notes for the longest number of hours.

Due to the higher oil concentration and layers of Notes, perfumes give you a more heavier and luxurious vibe. It is preferable to apply perfumes on clothes but you can also apply them to your skin.

On the other hand, Body sprays are a relatively recent type of fragrance which due to their higher levels of Alcohol and lower levels of Oil tends to stay only up to 2-3 hours. They are considered to be a cheaper alternative to perfumes and can be applied directly to the skin.

Body sprays generally make you feel light and refreshed upon application. They have blends of fragrances in low concentrations that’s why it is less complex and maintain the same kind of smell as long as they stay on the skin before evaporating completely.

Lastly, Body Mists are the most recent type of fragrance and one that is generally targeted at women who want to smell feminine. They are termed to be lighter or softer versions of fragrances that are similar to body sprays and aren’t long-lasting.

They are applied directly to damp skin and most essentially to pulse points such as wrists, nape, elbows, and armpits. Just like body sprays, they have less concentrated oils but unlike body sprays, they have more water than alcohol. This is why they are called “Mists” and have a lighter vibe when applied to the body.

Now that we know the primary differences, let’s look at which we should pick based on occasions.

Which One Should You Pick? Perfumes, Body Sprays or Body Mists?

Previously Perfumes had three primary categories; Eau de Cologne (EDC) which is the lightest category, Eau de Toilette which is not overpowering and can be used on work days, first dates, or interviews and Eau de Parfum which is the head turner with intense and increasing levels of oil concentrations.

Now there are two new categories; Extrait de Parfum which is a highly concentrated perfume oil and can be overpowering, so a little of this will last for long hours and Parfum which contains the most amount of concentrated oil and it is long-lasting producing a stronger and intense fragrance. With perfumes, it’s all about presenting yourself or the impression you want to make. Pick it for special occasions like weddings, events, or when you will need to surround yourself with important people for longer hours.

Body Sprays are available in two categories; Deodorants and Antiperspirants. Choose Deodorants to remove unpleasant and unwanted odors. For preventing or blocking sweat, Antiperspirants are the options for you. Body Sprays are well suited for small outings like popping up to shops that won’t take too much of your time, a friendly short lunch with a friend, or going to pick your kids up from school. Anywhere you go casually where you won’t have to stay for more than 3 hours and you want to feel refreshed, you can go for Body Sprays.

Body Mists are for when you want to feel brighter and more delicate. They need to be reapplied almost every 1-2 hours and so it’s best to use Body Mists at home. You can easily make it your everyday use product because due to its higher level of water it is very light and compliments shower gels and body lotions perfectly.

We hope now you will be able to decide what type of fragrance to buy and when to use which one. All three of them complement how we present ourselves both inside and outside of our homes.
